Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born on April 4th, 1972. She was also raised by her grandmother and grew up as an only child. Scott attended an institution called the Philadelphia High School for Girls, and then Temple University after graduating. While working two jobs, she studied secondary education. She was hoping to be an English teacher at the high school level. Her dream to become a high-school English teacher, ended when she quit school. She started her career as a spoken word artist who performed her own works in live poetry readings. She eventually linked up to Amir Quest love Thompson of The Roots. You Got Me is the outcome of their collaboration. Her first public appearance was as an artiste at a Roots Show. Her subsequent collaborations included Eric Benet Will Smith Common. She was able to perform through the Canada tour of Broadway's musical Rent. She was the first signing artist to Hidden Beach Recordings. Hidden Beach Recordings label.
